Asheville Fall Colors Walk
at Cool Warren Wilson College
Asheville fall colors walk along the Swannanoa River and at Warren Wilson College Farm with North Carolina fall foliage and mountain views.
Nestled in a lush mountain valley, Warren Wilson College offers the best pastoral Asheville fall colors walk. Along the road to this award winning College there is a wide spot by the Swannanoa River crossing that almost always has parked cars. There is a good reason for this, as locals and students alike come to enjoy one of the easiest and most beautiful Asheville fall colors walk.
This North Carolina fall foliage walk in the woods follows a colorful leaf strewn path along the bank of the sparkling Swannanoa River. On a crisp fall day fallen leaves carpet the narrow dirt path with hues of yellow, red and brown, and more leaves float down the rushing river as light filters through the canopy of red and gold leaves overhead. At times there are views of pastoral fields in autumn hues of gold and brown. Remember to turn around before you tire, and head back to your car.
Sometimes we pass by the river trail and drive onto the campus to walk the loop road around the Warren Wilson College farm fields. There is nothing quite so lovely in autumn as looking up into the North Carolina fall foliage covered mountains that surround the farm's brown and golden fields at the height of fall foliage. And if the sky is blue with soft white clouds, well you really should have your camera with you. This Asheville fall colors walk is just as awesome as the walk along the Swannanoa River.
Actually, there is every reason to enjoy both of these Asheville fall colors walk on the same day. Both walks are easy and offer very different fall foliage experiences. If you want to pause for a rest before starting the second walk, just drive around the beautiful Warren Wilson College Campus. You might even want to speak with a student to discover why, year after year, the college is named one of the twenty "Coolest Schools" in the nation by Sierra Magazine in its annual rankings of planet-preserving colleges and universities.
Warren Wilson College is nationally renowned as an environmentally responsible college where students not only study, but provide community service and work on the farm that produces much of the campus food. The college is located off of Warren Wilson Road, north of Highway 70 and I-40 exit 55 in East Asheville. Fall colors walk is our favorite time of the year to go, however this walk is also great in the spring and summer.
